NT Health e-health infrastructure


There are 2 Local Health Networks and a Primary Health Network in the Northern Territory.

The NT Department of Health established eHealthNT in 2008 as the business unit in NT Department of Health with responsibility for operation of the shared electronic health record service (My eHealth Record or MeHR) and other eHealth solutions and services such the Secure Electronic Messaging Service (SEMS).
NT Dept. of Health released a strategic plan in 2014 committing to:-
Implement innovative service and workforce models, including the use of eHealth, to provide more timely and accessible services as close to home as possible”, and to:-
Develop information technology that delivers the right information for the optimal delivery of patient care, to the clinician and the patient needing it, at the time it is required

In 2014, NT Health began a program to transition from the MeHR to the national PCEHR, known as M2N.

In May 2016, NT Health announced a substantial $186 million investment in a 5 year Core Clinical System Renewal Program. This followed from a $10 million scoping project announced in the 2015-16 budget
