{"id":209,"date":"2010-12-13T07:47:33","date_gmt":"2010-12-12T22:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.healthbase.info\/?p=209"},"modified":"2010-12-13T07:55:18","modified_gmt":"2010-12-12T22:25:18","slug":"banking-on-ehealth-liquidity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthbase.info\/blog\/?p=209","title":{"rendered":"banking on ehealth liquidity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Government has released its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.treasury.gov.au\/banking\/content\/default.asp\">proposal<\/a> for a &#8220;Competitive and Sustainable Banking System&#8221;, consisting of a number of parallel streams, the first of which includes:-<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The Government will appoint former Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Bernie Fraser to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to examine the technological options, the potential timeline and processes for implementing full account number portability<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Building such account number portability must surely be technically fairly simple, so why such a high powered enquiry? Certainly it must be far, far simpler than building a \u00a0comprehensive network of health information exchange capability and a PCEHR system for all Australians.<\/p>\n<p>Yet according to recent media articles, such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.watoday.com.au\/business\/review-to-consider-allowing-portable-account-numbers-20101212-18u33.html\">WAtoday.com.au<\/a> :-<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;L<em>abelling transferability &#8221;the Holy Grail of bank reforms&#8221;, the independent senator Nick Xenophon said if it worked it could make changing banks as easy as changing power companies.
